News and Announcements

Attention Wolverine Families!

With one month of our crisis learning down and one more to go, we wanted to check in with all of our families about your learning opportunities. We appreciate all of you that have stayed engaged with our Pinon Mesa community and are continuing your learning during this time.

We know that most of you are working with your teachers online. This continues to be the best way to keep learning if you are able to connect with your teachers through google classroom and virtual class meetings. If you are struggling with your internet connection, don’t forget that the district has set up “learning lots” with free snowline Wi-Fi at Serrano, Quail Valley and Wrightwood Elementary school parking lots.

For those of you who are working on the paper learning packets either by choice or necessity, we want to let you know that those resources are still available to you. In addition to the first packet, which contained a significant amount of work and probably enough to get most of you through the end of the school year, we have created a supplemental packet for the month of May for anyone who may be needing more learning material. An electronic copy of this work will be posted online as of Monday, May 4. Paper copies of this packet will be handed out on an as-needed basis only, so if you need more paper and pencil work, please reach out to either your advisory teacher or to one of the administrators or counselors to let us know and we will make arrangements to hand this packet out to you.

There will be more information coming regarding the end of the year, including a time to hand out yearbooks and PE clothes and hand in textbooks, library books and Chromebooks in a safe, drive-through manner. This is tentatively scheduled for the week of May 26 after Memorial Day, so keep your eye out for more information to come. And 8th graders, we sent you an email this week with our hopes and plans to celebrate you at the end of the year, so keep watching for more information on that as well.

We know that this has been an extremely challenging time for all of our families. Our staff is here to support you, so don’t hesitate to reach out by email if you need assistance. All of our email addresses are on the school website under the parent tab. Keep looking for those staff videos that we hope are making you smile, and for more ASB spirit activities coming soon. We miss all of your faces and hope you are all taking care of yourselves during this time. Stay Wolverine Strong!

Latest news on the 2020-21 School Year

Dear Pinon Mesa Families,

While we are disappointed that recent developments and guidelines prevent us from opening school in person, we are excited to start another great year with our Wolverines! Given that so much has changed just in the last week, we are still working hard on our Remote School plan. We understand this is a stressful time and the uncertainty regarding details can be frustrating. We will continue to keep you updated as we have more information, but you can be assured that our plan will be the very best for our students under the circumstances and will include all of the requirements that Dr. Holman discussed in his communications yesterday (July 20th), including access to chromebooks, live daily instruction, and a schedule and structure. We will continue to work with the district leadership, teachers, and staff on all issues, including special education students and English learners (Click "Read Full Story" below for the most recent communication from the district regarding Special Education). We will keep you informed, so look for more to come moving forward. We thank you for your patience and support during these challenging circumstances. Stay Wolverine Strong!

Dear 8th Grade Promoting Class of 2020,

Let us first say that we are so sorry that this is the way your 8th grade year is ending and wish it wasn’t the case. The unexpected closing of school continues to leave us all sad and missing you, and our hearts are with you and your families at this time. And, although it is true that the 8th grade end of year activities such as the dance, Knotts Berry Farm trip, carnival, and promotion ceremony are all canceled, we want to assure you that you are not forgotten.

Some may tell you that promoting from 8th grade is not nearly the milestone that a high school graduation is, but it is still a milestone in your life and it is okay to feel sad and disappointed. However, don’t let that sadness and disappointment keep you from celebrating your success. We are discussing ways to honor you and your accomplishments, because promoting from 8th grade is a big deal. It is a stepping stone to your future, a future we know will be bright because you are Wolverines and Wolverines stay strong even when faced with tough times. Although the following “events” will not make up for what you are missing out on, we hope that they will help you realize that you should be proud of this accomplishment.

First, a banner supporting our 8th graders was hung on the school fence last week facing Sheep Creek Road. Please drive your 8th grader by it or view it on the school’s social media accounts on Facebook (Piñon Mesa Middle School), Instagram (pmmswolverines20), or on Twitter@MesaPinon. Second, closer to the end of the year, our staff will be doing a video tribute to you that will be posted on our website and shared with you all. Then, on June 3 (the day originally scheduled for your promotion), at 8:20pm (2020 military time), all outdoor lights, at Piñon Mesa, will be turned on for 20 minutes in honor of you. Also, during the day on June 3, we are hoping that we may be able to have staff line the parking lot, using social distancing standards, so that you and your families can drive through (while remaining in your cars at all times) and be applauded for your accomplishments. This is something that we are hoping to do and will keep you updated if this can happen. We know it isn’t even close to the same as a promotion ceremony but want you to see how we are all so proud of you.

Finally, it is our plan that at a future date, possibly sometime in August, we can find a day to have you all back to Piñon Mesa for a promotion ceremony and your dance. When that will be and what that will look like is something we are still working on and several factors still need to be looked at in determining how to make that happen. We will do our very best to keep you updated on these planned “events” should there be any changes and as plans are finalized. Please also remember that you can still order your yearbook, for this school year, at Those will be distributed sometime at the beginning of June.

In closing, let us, once again, say that you are not forgotten in all of this. In these difficult times, it is important to look at our blessings as well. We have had more than two and a half amazing years with you and those are times we, as a staff, will always treasure and this unprecedented quarantine ensures that the 8th grade class of 2020 will never be forgotten. Please know that the staff of Piñon Mesa firmly believes in you and wishes you well in high school and beyond. Always remember that once you are a Wolverine, you are always a Wolverine.
